Why Your MBA Essay is the Most Important Part of Your MBA Admissions!

Every year thousands of students apply for the MBA degree but schools select only a few of them. Plus every time the economy hits the skids huge numbers of MBA wannabes line up to go back to the classroom. The Graduate Management Admissions Council (www.gmac.com) reports that a record 264,641 people took the Graduate Management Admissions Test in 2008, and 77% of full-time graduate business programs say applications jumped late last year. The seats available for the graduate program in each University are very limited and every applicant has to pass through a stringent screening procedure to obtain a spot.

Most employers require a masters or a management degree for a top job placement, as a result the need for an MBA is essential in landing a lucrative job. Unfortunately many applicants do not pass the screening for the Admissions Committee in spite of their excellent Grade Point Averages (GPAs) and Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMATs) ratings. The number 1 reason for this is because of a poorly written MBA essay. It is crucial therefore; that you write a unique and impressive MBA essay that the Admissions Committee will be impressed with. Together with an excellent resume, you have better chances of earning an interview with the admissions committee.

Here are the application requirements for a MBA program:

1. Summary of your work experiences – You should include all odd jobs and part-time exposures. Task details should be included because every bit counts.
2. Official Transcript of Records (TOR) – Most schools consider a 2.0 GPA. There are some exceptions depending upon the overall performance of the applicant.
3. Admissions Test like the (GMAT)\ – Your score should be in the average range of the other applicants.
4. Recommendation letters – The letters must come from reliable and valid sources who emphasize your good points.
5. Duly accomplished application form from the school – You should answer all questions clearly and comprehensively.
6. Essay – This is your personal statement and is the most important

aspects of your application. It should include an outline of your strengths, weaknesses, accomplishments, goals and answer sufficiently the question: “Why accept this candidate into the MBA program?” Your answer to the question must separate you from all the other people with similar backgrounds and grades.

You should also state why you selected the academic institution and why you will be an asset to them. Many Admissions Committees have refused applicants because there is nothing in their essay and resume that makes them unique from the other applicants. A well-written essay will make the difference between rejection and acceptance for an interview with the Admissions committee.
